Happy Birthday to me!

This is new (so bear with me), and I don't know how I'll do keeping it up, but...

Today I turned 40.

My favorite part of my day was my early morning walk. This week I've really been pushing it to reach my goal of 400 (miles) by 40 (I started last summer) - I had to do 16 miles this week to catch up. Well, this morning I decided to do the last 1 1/2 miles outside (I'm so sick of treadmilling in the living room). I convinced my son to stay home instead of biking with me.

It was crisp this morning, frost on the ground. Hardly anyone out at 6:30 Saturday morning. I headed over to Klinefelter Park. I only saw 4 people the whole time: a guy watching his dogs in the backyard, Officer Magaard in his squadcar (we waved), someone walkin' his dog on the other side of the loop, and a woman who passed me on her bike near the end of my turn around.

I loved the solitude, the crisp air, hearing the birds, even the naked trees not yet with green buds and the dry, brown rustling grass/reeds, not greening yet either.

I was a little surprised that the walk felt easier than it did when I trekked it last summer, but that was 300 miles ago, so it makes sense. Plus it was cooler. Anyway...

As I requested, I did not get the big birthday hub-bub. I got calls during the day: Dad, Mom, Kris and "company", Mark's mom. I got cards - one I particularly treasure 'cause it's from a long-time, far-away friend. Of course, Mark and the kids and I went out to eat and they gave me cards and presents and such.

So why am I sitting here blogging instead of in there with them?

Okay, okay.
